Women in Islam, and Rights for women in islam
Islam deals women with great honor and respect. Women in Islam are given respect and love in all roles like as a mother, daughter and wife. Islam teaches us to be best in manners towards your mother. One can please Allah and earn paradise by simply keeping his mother happy in the way Allah has commanded. Prophet of Allah, Muhammad (s.a.w) honored women very much and gave practical examples from his life.Quran and hadith has also emphasized on the status of women in Islam.
Women as Mothers:
As a mother, Islam has given more right to women (mother) than the father (men). It comes in a Hadith: Ibn Maajah (2781) narrated that Mu’aawiyah ibn Jaahimiah al-Sulami (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allaah, I want to go for jihad (battle) with you, seeking thereby the Face of Allaah and the Hereafter. He said, “Woe to you! Is your mother still alive?” I said, Yes. He said, “Go back and honour her.” Then I approached him from the other side and said: O Messenger of Allaah, I want to go for jihad with you, seeking thereby the Face of Allaah and the Hereafter. He said, “Woe to you! Is your mother still alive?” I said, Yes. He said, “Go back and honour her.” Then I approached him from in front and said, O Messenger of Allaah, I want to go for jihad with you, seeking thereby the Face of Allaah and the Hereafter. He said, “Woe to you! Is your mother still alive?” I said, Yes. He said, “Go back and honour her (lit. stay by her feet), for there is Paradise.” In Islamic teachings, son has to support mother financially if she need that support.
Women as Wives:
Islam commands husbands to treat their wives in the best way. The best man criterion is that ‘best’ title goes to the one who is best towards his family. Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The best of you is the one who is best to his wife, and I am the best of you to my wives.” Tirmidhi: 3895. A man is not allowed to take earning of his wife without permission. The responsibility of running home by spending and other expenses, are all duties of men, this is the reason why men have one degree over their wives i.e. a men are guardians of their families. “And they (women) have rights similar (to those of their husbands) over them to what is reasonable, but men have a degree (of responsibility) over them. And Allaah is All-Mighty, All-Wise”
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “I urge you to treat women well.” (Bukhari: 331)
Women as Daughters:
Prophet (s.a.w) was very kind towards his daughters. He (s.a.w) used to respect them a lot and it comes in a hadith:
“Whoever takes care of two girls until they reach adulthood, he and I will come like this on the Day of Resurrection,”
and he held his fingers together. (Muslim : 2631).
General rights for women in Islam:
Islam is the Deen of Justice. Women and men are different in nature and strengths. All this is because of Allah’s wisdom of creation. He created us and assigned us different roles in life. Islam gives women rights to teach, study, inheritance, buying and selling, giving charity etc. Women are fragile and elegant and because of these reasons Allah gave them authority of running and managing homes not the outside rough and tough world where they would deal with all kinds of people and things.
