Prophet Muhammad as Mercy for Mankind
The last and final messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) was the kindest of all. Allah made him mercy and source of compassion for all the humanity. He (s.a.w) not only prayed for his family and close companions but also for the human beings to come till Day of Judgment.
Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “And we have sent you (O Muhammad) not but as a mercy for the Aalameen (mankind, jinns and all that exists)” [al-Anbiya’ 21:107].
And Allah would not punish them while you (Muhammad) are amongst them, nor will He punish them while they seek (Allah’s) Forgiveness.”
Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) was best in his manners even with his worst enemies. In his life, when people of Ta’ifhurted him badly on calling them towards oneness of Allah, he did not curse them, instead he made dua for their guidance.
Think about this story that highlight the attitude of the Prophet of mercy (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) when the people of at-Taa’if rejected him and harmed him severely, when all he was doing was calling them to believe in the Oneness of Allah, and he did not want anything from them apart from that.
Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) was very courageous and best army leader. Inspite of all this, he never killed anyone except Ubai Ibn e Khalf in the battle of Uhud. Many scholars have consensus that he never killed anyone with his own hand before or afterwards.Minhaaj as-Sunnah an-Nabawiyyah, 8/57
Quran says: “There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is] concerned over you [i.e., your guidance] and to the believers is kind and merciful.”[Quran: 9:128]
The prophet of Allah (s.a.w) was very concerned towards his companions. He (s.a.w) used to make duas for them and ask about their affairs in the morning and evening. It comes about love and care of Prophet Muhammad(s.a.w) that every companion(R.A) of him(s.a.w) used to think that he loves me most of all.
Once HazratSa’d Bin Ubadah became ill and Prophet(s.a.w) went to see him, he was moved to tears on seeing the pitiful situation of his companion, and he said: : “Allaah does not punish because of tears, nor because of grief, but he punishes because of this.”-and he pointed to his tongue. [Al-Bukhaari]
At the time when Makkah was conquered, RasulUllah(s.a.w) forgave all the worst enemies of him who had treated him badly and force him (s.a.w) to do Hijrah. Prophet (s.a.w) asked them after Makkah was conquered by Muslim army without any violence, “How do you expect me to treat you?” They replied unanimously: “You are a noble one, the son of a noble one.” He announced to them his decision:
“You may go free! No reproach this day shall be on you; may God forgive you.”
Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) dignified women and children in the society. Women rights were established as per commandment of rasuUllah(s.a.w). He (s.a.w) was particular considerate towards children. It comes in a Hadith of Bukhari that he (s.a.w) said: “I stand in prayer and wish to prolong it. However, I hear the cry of a child and cut the prayer short for the anxiety which the mother is feeling.”
The prophet of Allah (s.a.w) strictly commanded for the slaves that “Feed them with the food which you eat, clothe them with such clothing as you wear, and do not cause trouble to Allaah’s creatures.” He (s.a.w) taught Muslims that your slaves are your brothers whom Allah has made dependent upon you.
Prophet (s.a.w)’s concern for Animals was hidden from none. Once he (s.a.w) was coming from an expedition with his companions. A few of companions took the bird chicks away from the nest. When prophet (s.a.w) came to know about this incident and the worried mother of chicks, he (s.a.w) became angry and ordered to put them back in the nest (Abu Dawood).
