Islam is the completest of all the religions. Same like other obligations, sacrifice of animals is also obligatory for Muslims once a year. For every community we have ordained the ritual of sacrifice so that they may pronounce the name of God over the cattle which He has blessed them with because your God is one God; so surrender yourselves to Him. [But this will only be done by those whose hearts are bowed down before their God] and [O Prophet (sws)! Give glad tidings [from their Almighty] to these who bow down. (22:34)


Importance of Animal Sacrifice in Quran

During the olden religious convictions of the earth, the tradition of animal sacrifice has continued a countless means of accomplishing the closeness of the Allah Almighty. Its spirit is the similar as that of the Zakat, nonetheless it should not to be observed as equivalent to treasure; it is fundamentally a promise of promising one’s life and is satisfied by the animal we offer on behalf of us. Apparently, this is like giving ourselves to demise, but a minute consideration displays that this decrease is the entrance to genuine life. The Holy Qur’an speaks:

‘وَلاَ تَقُولُواْ لِمَنْ يُقْتَلُ فِي سَبيلِ اللّهِ أَمْوَاتٌ بَلْ أَحْيَاء وَلَكِن لاَّ تَشْعُرُونَ’

(And do not say that those slain in this cause of God are dead; [they are not dead; in fact] they are alive, but you are not aware of [the manner they live]. (2:154))

On one occurrence, the Qur’an by enlisting the prayer in contrast to lifespan and the sacrifice in contrast to death has mentioned to this actual feature: Same as the prayer is similar to life in the manner of God, so, the sacrifice is similar to death according to the paths devised by Him:

قُلْ إِنَّ صَلاَتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ (162:6

Say: ‘My prayer and my sacrifice, my life and my death, are all for God, Lord of the Universe. (6:162)

At the time when Hazrat Abraham (RA) was headed to sacrifice a goat in place of his beloved son Hazrat Ismail and to honor this inordinate sacrifice and to turn it into an alive ritual for the approaching generations, the Allah Almighty held: ‘وَ فَدَيْنَهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظِيْم’ (And We ransomed Ishmael for a great sacrifice; (37:107)). The inference of these arguments was that the promise made by Hazrat Abraham (RA) had been recognized by the Allah Almighty and at this time generation after generation; persons would honor this pronounced occurrence by sacrificing animals.


Watched thus, the sacrifice is the highest point of adoration. As soon as we make an animal to stand or bend downing the way of the Baytullahand furthermore direct our own face in the direction of the House of Allah and offer the sacrificed animal as a present to God by uttering: ‘بِسْمِ اللهِ وَ اللهُ اَكْبَرْ’, we are in fact proposing our own selves to Allah.

This submission is the spirit of Islam for the reason that the connotation of Islam is that one must submit himself or herself to Allah and submit his most award-

Winning ownership – so as so, his individual life – to Him.
